Born in Póvoa de Varzim, Afonso Santos has been building his career in Hillclimb racing, achieving standout results at the wheel of various prototypes. In 2026, he won the Portuguese Hillclimb Cup at the Rampa Internacional da Falperra driving an Osella PA 2000 Evo2, setting a time of 2:08.084. Afonso Santos now returns to the Serra do Caramulo to join the line-up of drivers taking on the Rampa Histórica Castrol—a 2.8-kilometre course that once again welcomes cars for every taste, from classic icons to full-breed racing cars.

The young driver from the Algarve will be at Caramulo alongside his sister, fellow driver Leonor Barreto. Although he will not be tackling the Castrol Historic Hill Climb, Francisco Barreto will bring the Toyota Hilux IMT EVO so that it can be admired up close by visitors. Francisco Barreto has been establishing himself in off-road competitions, standing out for his speed, consistency, and ability to adapt to the demanding conditions of this discipline.

From a very young age, this driver developed a strong passion for speed, and his racing debut came in 1994, at just 16 years old, in the National Formula Ford Championship. He secured his fi rst overall title in 2000 when he won the Formula Novis By Ford. In 2006, he decided to go all-in on the National Hillclimb Championship and ended up being crowned champion at the wheel of a BRC prototype, a feat he repeated in 2008, 2009, and 2012.

Leonor Barreto is a young driver from the Algarve who competes for Barata Racing Team and recently gained significant recognition following her debut at Baja TT Sharish Reguengos de Monsaraz. Behind the wheel of an Isuzu D-Max, her participation will allow the public to closely follow one of the emerging names in national Rally-Raid.
