António Peixinho

António Peixinho was one of the glories of Portuguese motorsport, winning numerous competitions in Portugal and Angola
It was in the early 1960s that António Peixinho started with his successful sports career in motorsport, which crossed borders by participating and winning international events.
His first achievement, known internationally, was the 1964 Angolan Grand Prix, which concluded in 5th place, in the Ferrari 250 GTO nº3, of the “Écurie Francorchamps”. Along with the events held in Angola, António Peixinho also competed in the continent, as happened in 1965, when, behind the wheel of a Lotus Elan, he won the Rampa do Montejunto. In June 1967, he won the category “Tourism” (Group 1 and 2) of the I Circuito da Granja do Marquês. The following year, at Rallye TAP, António Peixinho, teaming with “Jocames”, took his Morris Cooper S to third place in the overall standings.
Later, in 1969, in the “Six Hours of Vila Real”, the Aveiro pilot led, with his Alfa Romeu 1750, the category “Series Tourism”, established that year by the National Sports Commission.
In Angola, António Peixinho had as his great rival Nicha Cabral, the first Portuguese driver to race in the Fórmula1. In 1971, in the Six Hours of New Lisbon, the victory fell to Nicha Cabral, who imposed his BMW 2800CS to the Alfa Romeo T33, António Peixinho. Later, the two drivers shared the wheel of the Lola T2292 BMW Schnitzer, to compete in the Six Hours of New Lisbon.
