He was one of the first Portuguese to venture into the Paris Dakar. He participated for the first time in 1982, accompanied by Pedro Cortês and José Megre, with a UMM Cournil. He returned to compete in 1984 and 1987. He participated in the Camel Trophy, which finished second with the same score as the winning team.

He is the founding member of Clube Aventura, which organized several TT events throughout the country, and in various modalities such as navigation tests, trial and regularity. Together with José Megre and Carlos Barbosa, in 1987, he organized the first off-road competition in Portugal, the Baja 500 Portalegre that is still held more than 30 years later.
