Considered a leading figure in off-road racing .He was one of the fist Portuguese to venture into the Paris-Dakar. He participated for the first time in 1982, accompanied by Pedro Cortês and José Megre, driving a UMM Cournil. He returned to compete in 1984 and 1987. He also took part in the Camel Trophy, finishing in second place with the same score as the winning team.
He is a founding member of Clube Aventura, which organized several off-road events across the country in various disciplines, including navigation, trial, and regularity tests. Together with José Megre and Carlos Barbosa, he organized Portugal’s first off-road competition in 1987: the Baja 500 Portalegre, an event that is still held today, more than 30 years later.
