A towering figure in Portuguese motorsport, Rui Madeira, returns to the Caramulo Motorfestival. One of the greatest names in the history of Portuguese rallying is heading back to the event on 4, 5, and 6 September—this time for a particularly special appearance alongside his long-time friend and co-driver in so many adventures, Nuno Rodrigues da Silva, as well as his wife, Paula, with whom he is entered in the event.

After clinching back-to-back Portuguese National Rally Championship Group N titles in 1993 and 1994, he set his sights on international competition and, in 1995, reached the pinnacle of his career. Alongside Nuno Rodrigues da Silva, he was crowned FIA Production World Rally Champion, becoming the first Portuguese driver ever to win an FIA world rallying title.

The 1995 season took the pairing to some of the discipline’s most prestigious international events, from Monte Carlo to New Zealand, taking in Portugal, Corsica, Australia, Catalunya, and the RAC Rally in Great Britain. At the wheel of the Mitsubishi Lancer, Rui Madeira claimed four category victories in a campaign that put Portugal firmly at the top of Production rallying.

The following year, Rui Madeira and Nuno Rodrigues da Silva wrote another landmark chapter in Portuguese motorsport by taking overall victory at the 1996 Rally de Portugal. Over the course of his career, Madeira was also awarded “Best Portuguese Driver” at the Portuguese round of the World Rally Championship on five occasions.

Decades after the journeys, the stages, and the victories they shared across the globe, Rui Madeira and Nuno Rodrigues da Silva will reunite once more at the Caramulo Motorfestival.
